Paulinians continue to soar high internationally as St. Paul College Pasig (SPCP) alumna Crisel Consunji clinches nominations for two categories at the 38th Hong Kong Film Awards (HKFA).

Currently based in Hong Kong, Consunji graduated at SPCP in 2002 and obtained her degree in Political Science at Ateneo de Manila in 2006. She then flew to Hong Kong in 2008 to work as a lead singer in Hong Kong Disneyland for three years.

Consunji is nominated for both Best Actress and Best New Performer categories for starring in the film “Still Human”, directed by Oliver Chan Siu-kuen. It is the first time a Filipino actor has been recognized as a nominee for a top acting award at the prestigious HKFA.

“I am delighted to be one of the nominees, and I am grateful to all those who have produced ‘Still Human’,” Consunji said in an interview with Hong Kong newspaper Ming Pao. Consunji also expressed her gratitude towards Siu-kuen for creating a film that shows the problems Filipino domestic helpers encounter.

“Still Human” is a film that recognizes the hardships of a Filipino domestic helper in Hong Kong. Consunji played the role of Evelyn Santos, a former nurse who gave up her dream of being a photographer to go to Hong Kong and work as a caregiver to earn a living.

According to South China Morning Post, the film premiered in the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival last November 6, 2018.

“Still Human” is also nominated in six other categories, including Best Screenplay, Best Film, Best New Director for Siu-kuen.

Acting alongside Consunji is veteran actor Anthony Wong who played the role of paralyzed divorcee Chong-Wing Leung. Wong received a nomination in the Best Actor category. This is Wong’s 12th nomination at the HKFA.

The winners of the 2019 HKFA will be announced at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui on April 14. The said award show is the country’s equivalent of Oscars.
